Project Title
: "Application of a Wraparound-view 3D Monitor Technology for Driver Safety and Peace of Mind"

Award-winning Technology

While on-vehicle camera monitoring systems have previously been brought to market seeking to reduce pedestrian accidents when reversing a motor vehicle and support drivers when parking, there was a need for a technology that could display images on a wider field of view, eliminating blind spots for increased safety and peace of mind.
The award winners developed a "wraparound view 3D monitor technology" that differed from technologies used in conventional products in using a fresh approach that utilizes 3D graphics processing technologies to combine not just the images of the direct periphery around a vehicle, but a 360 degree view of a wider area including views of the background from images from four on-vehicle cameras. This established a wraparound 3D view of the immediate environment, allowing for displays from the desired direction with the driver freely able to change the perspective of the image in a smooth manner.
This technology makes it possible to display peripheral objects and one's spatial relation with other vehicles from the optimum viewpoint position in a manner that is easy to comprehend. This allows for a wide field of view and added visibility of peripheral objects in a way that was not possible with previous products. It is especially effective in generating new driver support images such as when looking out for oncoming traffic and pedestrians at intersections and checking rear safety when changing lanes, introducing a greater level of support for driver safety.
