DENSO TEN has developed Multi-Angle Vision™, a system allowing drivers to view the environment surrounding a vehicle by a three-dimensional vird's-eye images from a wide range of riewpoints.

What is Multi-Angle Vision™?What is Multi-Angle Vision™?

By combining images captured with cameras mounted at four locations (front and back of the car, and left and right door mirrors), the system displays a three-dimensional bird's-eye view through a full 360° around the vehicle, together with a picture of the vehicle rendered with three-dimensional CG. In recent years, there have been high expectations for systems to check the perimeter of vehicles and thereby support safe driving. As a world's first* product supporting safe driving, DENSO TEN conducted joint development with Fujitsu Laboratories in 2010. Unlike products which convert camera images into planar form, join the images and then look down on the area around the vehicle from the sky, this product can generate a three-dimensional bird's-eye view incorporating the surrounding scenery, furthermore enabling changes in perspective. This system supports safe driving by augmenting the visual field of the driver, in situations such as backing up when parking, or at intersections with poor visibility.

Display of view from outside car Display from driver’s point of viewDisplay of view from outside car Display from driver’s point of view

When the switch is pressed while parked, the image of the area around the car is displayed on screens such as the car navigation system.
The image is displayed so that it appears as though the driver's line of sight passes through the car's body, and it is possible to more intuitively grasp the small obstacles which have been difficult to confirm with previous images giving a bird's-eye view from above the vehicle. This makes it easier for the driver to notice things at blind spots which cannot be easily checked from the driver's seat (e.g., near vehicle corners, or behind the vehicle), especially objects which are short in height.
The screen is automatically displayed in 360°, and can be checked more closely by stopping at any desired location.

When turning, this screen allows drivers to see the blind spots to the left, right, and rear of the vehicle. For example, drivers can check farther to the left or right when leaving a parking area. When turning, drivers can also verify the turning radius of a vehicle's inner and outer rear wheels.

Our company has been concentrating its efforts on developing advanced safety systems for prevention and mitigation of harm in case of a collision. In addition to the Multi-Angle Vision™ system with its newly added features, our products include Millimeter Wave Radar, Vehicle Security Systems, Airbag Control Module ECUs, and Telematics Units for the eCall Emergency Call System. These systems are at work in situations such as parking, starting out or reversing, normal driving, and during/after collisions.
Going forward, we will contribute to the realization of an accident-free automotive society by creating safety systems with even higher added value. This will be achieved by integrating these on-board systems with Future Link™, a service built around the concept of linking data on people, cars, and society to provide a new mobility life suited to each and every driver.
