Separation of Japanese Manufacturing Function as Independent Company

Nov. 7, 2013
FUJITSU TEN LIMITED

FUJITSU TEN LIMITED (Head office: Kobe City, Hyogo, Japan; President & Representative Director: Takashi Shigematsu; Capital: \5.3 billion) will separate its Japanese manufacturing function (Nakatsugawa Plant and TOCHIGI FUJITSU TEN LIMITED) and will establish an independent company, "FUJITSU TEN MANUFACTURING LIMITED," on January 1, 2014.

The automobile markets around the world are expected to grow, mainly in North America, ASEAN countries and the emerging countries, while the Japanese automobile market is not likely to expand. Moreover, as seen in further commoditization of products, increasing demand for low-priced products and other trends, the circumstances surrounding the products of FUJITSU TEN are dramatically changing. In these circumstances, recognizing the necessity to enhance its manufacturing system from the viewpoint of optimization of manufacturing (monozukuri) in order to have a robust production base in Japan, the company decided to spin off its manufacturing function in Japan into the separate company.

By establishing the new company, FUJITSU TEN intends to achieve the three main aims: [1] facilitation of stronger company structure and more efficient management through the establishment of the financially independent company specialized in manufacturing; [2] faster decision-making as well as more independent and flexible management; and [3] achievement of competitiveness in the international market by promoting these measures vigorously.

Equipped with the cutting-edge production technology and skills and manufacturing ability, the new company, as the mother factory, will play a role in leading the overseas factories of the FUJITSU TEN group. In addition, the company will make an effort to develop human resources who can actively work globally with capability of management.

TOCHIGI FUJITSU TEN LIMITED will be the surviving company and the new company is scheduled to be headquartered at 2110, Naegi, Nakatsugawa, Gifu, Japan (where Nakatsugawa Plant is now located). Nakatsugawa Plant and TOCHIGI FUJITSU TEN are currently manufacturing car electronic devices(*1) and infotainment devices(*2), respectively. Even after the new company is established, there will be no major change in the production items.

*1  Car electronic devices: electronic control units (ECU) for engine control, airbags, antitheft alarms, and others, millimeter wave radar, etc.
