FUJITSU TEN LIMITED, which develops the car navigation brand "ECLIPSE" and other leading automotive electronic equipment, introduced our smartphone remote engine start system "RES +" as a dealer option for the Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. "Lexus RX" in September, 2012, and started service in October.
Outline of the "RES +" Remote Engine Start System
By downloading the exclusive application and registering in advance, the user can remotely control the registered vehicle, such as starting or stopping the engine and locking or unlocking the doors, from their iPhone or Android smartphones（*1）.In North America, there are high needs for remote engine start systems. However, the operating range for the previous RES (remote operation from a keyless remote control) was limited to very close to the vehicle. Because the new system uses the Internet / cell phone networks, the user can perform operations even far away from the vehicle. The user can also check the status of the vehicle, such as if the doors are locked or if the engine is running, on their smartphone screen.
Also, this system is equipped with GPS, so by recording the location where the vehicle is parked, the user can check the location (show the direction to) their vehicle in a large parking lot. This function is a standard feature.
Project Background / Cooperation in the FUJITSU Group
As smartphones are rapidly becoming more widespread throughout the market, our company has been advancing the project and development for this system since 2010. By further expanding the system in the future, we will realize support for tracking stolen vehicles and for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, providing our users with peace of mind even in emergencies and with comfort and convenience in an environmentally friendly age.
Also, we have taken efforts for development as the FUJITSU Group, such as utilizing the public cloud service "FGCP/S5"（*2） of FUJITSU deployed in North America as well as Japan.
Under the "FENICSⅡ M2M services"（*3） this system is realized by connecting our company’s center server with the mobile network of Telenor Connexion AB (Head office: Stockholm, Sweden, CEO: Per Simonsen), an industrial company of the global network provider Telenor Group (Head office: Oslo, Norway), which boasts a scale of 150 million contracts throughout the world.
In the future, we will focus on new projects like this center business as the core of our company’s business.
