Drive Recorder for Malaysian Market

FUJITSU TEN LIMITED (Headquarters: Kobe, Japan, President & Representative Director: Keijiro Katsumaru, Capital: 5.3 billion yen) has delivered the business-use OBVIOUS eco-friendly drive recorder, from the global car AV and navigation systems brand of ECLIPSE, to Highway Card Sdn. Bhd. (Headquarters: Kuala Lumpur, Director: Dan H. Suzuki), an automobile operations management company, through Fujitsu (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (Headquarters: Kuala Lumpur, President and CEO: Masaya Motegi), with shipping starting in mid-September.
This marks the first overseas delivery of drive recorders for FUJITSU TEN. Moving forward, we will use the results derived in Malaysia as a launching pad for further global expansion.

Background

In recent years, car ownership in Malaysia has been increasing bringing with an increase in the number of automobile accidents. Accordingly, the institution of mandatory GPS operation monitoring for expressway buses and similar actions has resulted in an increased awareness regarding accident prevention and safe driving, together with the emergence of a need for accident image recorders.
Until now, FUJITSU TEN has sold drive recorders in the Japanese market directed at commercial transport vehicles such as taxis, buses and trucks, as well as passenger vehicles. This product is loaded with a full range of image recording functionality, including a constant recording and power-off timer functions, and satisfies the local market demand perfectly.

Future Expansion

FUJITSU TEN aims to become the top manufacturer of drive recorders in Malaysia and, from there, push onward in a pro-active manner towards further global expansion.

What is a Drive Recorder?

A drive recorder consists of a camera mounted to a vehicle that records and saves video images of the conditions surrounding the vehicle. By analyzing the data recorded when an accident or similar incident occurs, drive recorders help to rapidly identify the cause of an accident. Analyzing the data contributes to understanding one's own driving conditions while the attention paid to ensuring safe driving is increased by the self-consciousness of having one's actions recorded. These and other elements have led to drive recorders serving as an effective means of reducing traffic accidents, with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, National Police Agency and other Japanese agencies promoting their expanded use.
Moreover, the resulting reduction in rapid acceleration/deceleration can be expected to provide improved fuel mileage such that recent years have seen the rapid expansion within Japan of drive recorder installation to passenger vehicles in addition to commercial vehicles such as taxis and trucks.

Product Name Model Shipping Date
OBVIOUS RECORDER DRU-3013AM Mid-September 2009

DRU-3013AM Characteristics

English-language version of the high-performance Type II (with GPS) version of the OBVIOUS G300 Series Drive Recorder sold within Japan for commercial vehicles.

Equipped with Constant Recording System

The OBVIOUS is equipped with both an "Event Recorder" that records when an impact is detected as well as a "Constant Recorder". A slight collision will be recorded even if an impact is not sensed to ensure that no data is lost.

Power Off-Timer Function Provides Continued Recording for a Preset Time

The drive recorder power is maintained on for a preset amount of time after the vehicle engine is turned off to continue recording image and voice data. This allows for recording accidents that occur in a parking lot when a driver is not in the vehicle and under similar circumstances so as to decrease worries about unaccompanied vehicles.

Audio Recording Function

This function provides for detailed analysis of both image and audio data.

Adoption of a Wide-Angle Camera Provides a Recorded Image Horizontal Range of 135°

The wide-angle CCD camera ensures a 135° horizontal camera angle and a 105° vertical one, the maximum available in the industry. This allows recording conditions outside of the vehicle across a wide range.

Multiple Camera Connections/Simultaneous Recording Function

Up to three cameras can be used simultaneously. The capturing and analysis of a wide-scope of information contributes to further increased safe driving. Also, a camera can be mounted within the vehicle cabin to ease driver concerns. (Equipped with one camera only; others can be purchased separately.)
