April 19, 2007. FUJITSU TEN LIMITED (Headquarters: Kobe, President: Keijiro
Katsumaru) announced that the ECLIPSE AVN2227P, detachable navigation section
integrated into double-DIN unit, would be available for sale in European
market in this August 2007. The sale of this same type product follows
the beginning of sales in May in North American market.
With the spread of car navigation devices seen on a global scale, sales
of portable PND(Portable Navigation Device) have been increasing along
with sales of factory-installed car navigation integrated with entertainment
systems. PNDs have seen a steady rise in sales due to their ease-of-use
and convenience -- being able to be used in other vehicles, going over
travel routes at home, added security because they can be removed from
the vehicle, affordable pricing and portability.
Against this backdrop, FUJITSU TEN brings the best of both worlds together.
This product is a double-DIN sized audio unit with a factory-fit console
appearance that also integrates a navigation section that can be detached
and used independently. This product combines all the advantages of a full-featured
usefulness of a PND into a product that a greater number of consumers can
enjoy at an attractive price.
The development of this product was a collaborative effort with TomTom
N.V. (the Netherlands, Chairman/CEO Harold Goddijn), a leading portable
navigation solution provider in the USA and Europe. FUJITSU TEN was responsible
for the overall project and product development, while TomTom provided
the navigation system.
The AVN2227P is the audio built-in car navigation equipped with a 3.5"
TFT display. Map database for European countries(※1) is contained in a compact SD memory card. One of the feature is that this
model can correspond to auto speed pulse(auto speed signal) that users
can see moving distance. This adjusts own car location even in tunnels
or underground sections of roads when the car can not receive GPS information.
The detachable navigation section incorporates a GPS antenna, a built-in
speaker and a rechargeable battery, making it fully operable independently
when removed from the main unit. Users can also access TomTom PLUS services
including weather and traffic reports (requires subscription and mobile
phone with Bluetooth and GPRS). These can easily be managed by using TomTom
HOME, a proprietary software application that is provided at no charge.
With the AVN2227P FM/AM, CD, CD-R/RW, MP3 and WMA files can be enjoyed
in high quality sound even when the navigation section is removed. Additional
source options include USB memory devices with MP3 music, iPod, Bluetooth,
enabling cellular phones for hands-free calls, and real time traffic information(※2) reception via an RDS-TMC(※3) tuner. Followed by the sales in North America and Europe, this product
is scheduled to be available in Australia within the year.
