FUJITSU TEN Supplies Products with Lead-Free Solder to Automobile Audio Visual products Market
- Planning to Make All Products Lead-Free by End of 2005 -

We, FUJITSU TEN LIMITED (Head office: Kobe, President: Takamitsu Tsuchimoto, Capital: 5.3 billion yen) market ECLIPSE brand new products which are the car AV products using lead-free solder for the main print circuit boards inside from July 1 this year. With the conversion of print board solder to lead-free, we are promoting introduction of lead-free components and planning to make all our new products lead-free by the end of 2005.

We position the preservation of the global environment as a key management issue and positively deploying activities for this purpose. Especially, concerning on consideration to the environmental aspect of our products, we have realized stopping using various hazardous materials from our products, such as asbestos or cyan contained materials, and specific bromine contained frame retardant by establishing the assessment system in production from the environmental point of view in 1995, as well as by realizing the total abolition of use of ozone destructive materials in the manufacturing process.

As for lead-free solder adoption, we have been promoting the development of lead-free solder material and relative manufacturing method since 1995 that can realize high product reliability under the severe environmental condition such as products* installation on automobiles. This results in leading to our adoption of lead-free solder for the first time to soldering of the main circuit boards in ECLIPSE product (AVN3302D model), a product incorporating audio visual equipment and DVD navigation system altogether.

We have intended to convert all of our print circuit boards used in all brand new products manufactured by FUJITSU TEN group companies to those with lead-free solder by 2003. Under promoting this conversion, we will expand the use of lead-free solder to our OEM products one by one, while promoting the adoption of components not containing lead. We also are planning to make all our new products completely lead-free by the end of 2005 through these conversions.

In the new ECLIPSE products sold in July, there are other three models besides AVN3302D model using lead-free solder, "AVN8802D", "AVN7702D" and "AVN5502D" which are also unified products incorporating AV equipment and DVD navigation system with 40 % or more light weighted than existing models. We market these four green products (*) in this July.

We promote sales of these green products by means of indicating "Eco-Label", which includes the symbol mark for green product (popularly called "green mark") and product environmental property data, on the catalogues or product packages of these products.
